The battles for the city lasted from February 24 to November 22, 2022. russia failed to capture Mykolaiv, but due to the endless number of shellings, a large part of the city was destroyed. As of the beginning of November 2022, 149 people died and about 700 were injured in Mykolaiv from russian shelling. Mykolaiv received the status of a hero city of Ukraine.
