"My Bookshelf" was founded in 2014 as a result of belief in the revival of Ukrainian culture, particularly books. We are born of the Revolution of Dignity, which has become a revolution of our consciousness. Since then, we went in search of a quality Ukrainian book, which barely made its way through the dense mass of russian.
Our online store started its work with an assortment of only 100 titles, and today you have the opportunity to choose among thousands of incredible books in Ukrainian. In 2015, we opened a book corner in the courtyard of Volodymyrska Street, and the first bookshop-cafe "My Bookshelf" in the heart of Kyiv on Yevhena Chykalenko Street (fortunately, the former Pushkinska) next to the Teatralna metro station and an extremely cozy square on the corner of Prorizna opened its doors on beginning of 2016.
"My Bookshelf" bookshop-cafe , despite the crazy demand for Russian books, became the first 100% Ukrainian bookstore not only in Kyiv, but also in Ukraine. We have not found a place for any russian-language book. We became small changes and thanks to unshakable faith and firmness — an example for the development of Ukrainian books and the rejection of other bookstores from russian.
In the last days of December 2017, we opened a large bookstore in the Darnytskyy district next to the Poznyaky metro station, because we understood that a cultural space on a residential area is needed no less than fresh air and a cozy park. And soon we started our own publishing house, which offers young readers unique editions of various genres, including historical ones. At the end of 2019, a bookstore-café opened on the bank of the Dnipro on Rusanivska Naberezhna. At the same time, we implemented the project of a bookstore on wheels, which made books visible and accessible in small towns and villages. The fourth "My Bookshelf" store was located in the heart of Chernihiv. In January 2022, we began work on the launch of the fifth facility, however, the full-scale war adjusted our plans to a large extent.
Today, My Bookshelf is two bookstores and cafes in Kyiv, an online store and a publishing house. My Bookshelf is 10 years of respect and love for Ukraine. These are thousands of free "chytankas" (reading events for children). It always has delicious freshly roasted coffee and its own pastry shop, it is a space for reading, meetings and even work. My Bookshelf is the story that started it all.
